An Instacart-commissioned Harris Poll of 2,059 U.S. adults (June 2 to 4, 2026) found that 83% say figuring out dinner causes them stress, and about a third say deciding what to make is the hardest part. It’s a company-commissioned poll, so it says nothing about how any product performs. But the pattern is familiar.
The details
83% say figuring out dinner causes stress.
About a third say the hardest part is deciding what to make.
Lists of quick-dinner recipes don’t fix it, because the bottleneck isn’t recipes. It’s agreement.
What it means at your table
It’s 5:07. Someone opens the fridge as though the answer might be in there. A kid vetoes the one idea on the table. One tired adult ends up inventing dinner from scratch while everyone else watches. Cooking is usually fine once the night has a name.
This week’s move
Decide the week ahead of time, at an hour when nobody is starving. Pick a loose theme, let people vote, approve the plan once, and shop from one list. Then say one winner out loud: Tuesday is chicken and rice.
Foodoodle is built around that loop: free during beta, no card, in your browser. It won’t cook for you, and we won’t promise it cuts your stress by any percentage.
