Frozen berries are easy to tuck away and forget. This week’s freezer check is worth doing before you plan the next round of breakfasts.
An October 2 recall expansion covers specific lots of Great Value and Trader Joe’s frozen organic berries because of possible E. coli contamination. The FDA’s October 5 update says the outbreak ended September 21, but recalled bags may still be at home, with best-by dates extending into 2028.
Which bags to check
The October 2 recall notice lists:
Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, 10 oz
Great Value Organic Blueberries, 10 oz
Trader Joe’s Organic Mixed Berry Blend, 12 oz
Match the product name, package size, lot code and best-by date against that notice. It includes package photos to help. Earlier recalls also covered GreenWise products; the FDA update links to those details.
One useful action today
Take a minute to check your freezer before you write the shopping list. If a bag matches a recall, don’t eat or serve it. FDA says to discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
Then make one small edit to the week’s plan: give that breakfast a replacement ingredient. Oatmeal with a banana or yogurt with another fruit you already have can keep a familiar morning meal on the calendar. Put anything missing on the grocery list so the swap is settled before Monday.
If you ate recalled berries and develop symptoms of an E. coli infection, FDA advises contacting your health care provider immediately.
