National School Lunch Week wraps up today. The U.S. observance runs October 12–16, 2026, according to the School Nutrition Association. It recognizes the people behind school meals, and leaves households with a useful question: what worked this week?
By Friday, you have something a fresh menu can’t tell you: experience. Maybe a packed lunch was easy to assemble and enjoyable to eat. Maybe a school meal was the one someone wanted again. Either can be worth keeping.
Today’s small job: choose one lunch to repeat.
Think back over the week together and name a lunch that suited both the eater and the day. What made it work? Familiar food, manageable preparation, a container that was easy to open? Keep that detail with the idea.
For a packed lunch, put the ingredients you’ll need on the next shopping list. For a school meal, look for its next appearance on the menu. Choose a day that fits, and let that one decision carry forward.
Keep the successful part simple. A lunch that worked on a quiet morning may need a different day when the household is rushing.
For packed lunches containing perishable food, plan the cold storage too. USDA recommends an insulated lunchbox and at least two cold sources, such as gel packs or frozen water bottles. Place the cold sources above and below the perishable food.

The celebration ends today. A lunch worth repeating can stay in the rotation.
