Meal Plan Blues
Mealime will be discontinued on October 21, 2026, according to its own closing page (mealime.com/closing). Personal plans, favorites, and lists are removed when the app closes. The recipe catalog moves to Meals Hub inside Albertsons Companies’ store apps. Plenty of households already saved the keepers — screenshots, camera-roll favorites, a sticky that says the old planner is leaving. That is Day 2’s news: the recipes are saved. Who sees dinner?
The details
Official facts only — mealime.com/closing — no rumors, no victory lap. When Mealime closes, personal plans, favorites, and lists are deleted. The catalog moves to Albertsons’ Meals Hub. The page does not describe a way to export your own favorites, plans, or lists.
Saving keepers was the right first move. Awareness Day 2 is what happens next: a camera roll full of recipes still isn’t a week the house can see. Screenshots live in one phone. Dinner is a household question. If Mon–Sun stays blank on the wall, Oct 21 is still a blank fridge — even with a hundred keepers in the roll.
What it means at your table
Picture the kitchen table. Phone unlocked to a gallery of recipe screenshots. “This week” notepad still empty. Sticky that says “Saved… still no plan.” Someone asks what’s for dinner like nothing was decided — because, for the house, nothing was.
Tip culture will try to fix this with more recipes. Cute. Meanwhile the keepers never left one person’s camera roll, so the week never got a vote, an approve, or a named night. Oct 21 then becomes solo scramble with three people watching and one tired adult inventing dinner theater from a photo roll.
This week’s move
One time-bound practice for Awareness Day 2 — keepers aren’t a week:
Treat camera-roll keepers as inputs, not a plan. Theme → household vote → approve → one aisle-grouped list.
Pick a light theme the house will eat (skillet week, sheet-pan nights, pasta + protein — whatever already matches how you cook). Put options where people can see them — including any keepers you already saved. Vote. Approve once. Then let the list hold only the dinners you already named. After approve, say one already-voted weeknight out loud: Tuesday is the sheet-pan thing. One named dinner that matched the vote beats Oct 21 blank-fridge panic.
Put the shared week on the wall so the screenshots have a job — and so the house can see dinner before the old planner goes quiet.
Foodoodle is a free household meal planner built for that shared week — theme, vote, approve, aisle-grouped list. Free during beta, no card, browser first. It is a helper, not a guarantee. It is not an official Mealime replacement and cannot import Mealime data. It will not cook for you or invent a savings percent. Try it at https://foodoodle.com when the house is ready to see the week together.
